HOW WE READ A FIRST ENQUIRY

What we look for in the first message you send, and why vague enquiries take longer to answer.

The three things we look for

1. What the finished thing is. A landing page, a cover, a score, a full identity. Format first, taste second. 2. When it has to exist. A real date beats "soon". If the date is fixed by a launch, a release or a print run, say so. 3. Who decides. One name. Projects slow down when approval is spread across four people who have never spoken to each other.

What we do with it

Your enquiry is read against current capacity, not against an ideal empty calendar. If the week you need is already committed, we tell you in the reply rather than holding the slot and hoping.

Why vague enquiries take longer

"Interested in your work, what do you charge" cannot be answered honestly. We would have to invent a number. Instead we reply asking the three questions above, which costs both of us a round trip.

Faster version

Send: format, date, decision owner, two reference links, and any hard constraint. That is enough for a real answer in the first reply.

Was this helpful?

Tell us honestly. It is read by the people who write these pages.

If this didn't answer your question, ask Xylo.
